Prayer shawls are either knitted or crocheted, and when completed, given to anyone going through a time of illness, sorrow, transition, challenge and on joyous occasions.  Shawls console those who are grieving, comfort those who are ill, bring hope to those who are in despair.  Many of the items are made with stitches in multiples of three to represent the Trinity.

St. Matthew’s Shawl Ministry was started in 2006 with eight members at the first meeting.  Shawls and lap robes were accumulated with the first blessing on June 4, 2006, Pentecost Sunday.  Parishioners were then urged to distribute them to anyone needing comfort.   Shawls and lap robes are available by contacting the church office.

We have also made baptismal afghans and blankets to be given to any child being baptized.

Prayers and instructions are available on the many Prayer Shawl sites on the Internet. They can be also be obtained by calling the church office.
